There’s been a seismic shift in fitness over the past couple of years with more and more people building their own gyms at home.
Much of this was due the gyms being forced to shut their doors during the pandemic which forced people to find new ways to workout. Now even though the pandemic has largely passed people are still enjoying the convenience of working out from home.
The key question most people have though is how to go about it. What equipment do I really need and how is it best utilized? How do I do it without breaking my budget?
The answer to all of them is to work in steps!
Start by picking your exercise apparel and equipment, followed by a complete workout plan for yourself (if you need help designing one let us know!)
Next pick a specific room and set up your music system. Believe it or not that is one of the keys that keeps people from staying on the couch.. having some good music to listen to during their workout!
Finally…Believe that you are investing in building your health and enhancing your looks at the same time. Have faith in yourself, and get started!
Next what equipment will you need?
Well there’s no hard and fast answer to that. Some people do prefer machines like treadmills and all in one gym’s but the truth is the good ones.. Well they’re pretty expensive (Trust us the cheap ones are cheap for a reason!)
Honestly you don’t need that expensive equipment to get in a great workout. In fact just to opposite is true.
Here are some suggestions that we give to people to build a rocking home gym without breaking the bank along with links to the ones we recommend:
Exercise mat - Exercise matt is mandatory for a workout. This matt ensures that you have a safe and comfy workout from all angles without having the hard floor interrupting your workouts. Moreover, it will protect you from getting bruises and cuts by performing strenuous exercises.
Dumbbells - Dumbbells can assist you in many different strength training exercises. You can do dumbbell bench press, lateral raise, bicep curls, triceps kickback, overhead extension, chest press, and many more exercises.
One way to save money (and space) is to get adjustable dumbbells like these: Flybird Adjustable Dumbbells
Weight Training Bench – A good quality bench is one of the most useful tools you can have in your home gym. Almost all body strengthening exercises use a bench. Whether it is an exercise with dumbbells or bench dips, a sturdy and robust bench will help to achieve those long-craved broad and strong shoulders and abs.
Jump rope - Seriously is there anything more basic or cheaper than a jump rope? Yet it’s one of THE best all-round pieces of workout equipment that will help you shed your extra pounds within a matter of weeks.
Moreover, it will help you establish consistent and higher stamina levels. You can also try weighted jump ropes for more heavy strength training exercises.
Barbell, Weight plates and rods – For those that want a bit more and have the room adding a barbell and some weights plates can help you acquire your most wanted toned arms and shoulders. You can buy different weighted plates like 1.25kg, 2.5kg, 5kg, 10kg, or 15kg, according to your strength and requirements.
Some other things you can add if you’d like:
● Pull-up bars;
● Kettlebell.
Being able to workout at home is a great way to avoid the "I don't have time to workout" excuse and doesn't need to break the bank. Start with a couple pieces of equipment and a good routine and build from there!
